MAGIC, PIXIE DUST AND MIRACLES
A GUIDE FOR DIRECT PRIMARY CARE AND EMPLOYERS
DR. SHANE PURCELL, MD
Direct primary care (DPC) is lighting the spark to the value-based and transparency revolution in healthcare. It evolved from the rejection of the "middlemen" and the fostering of time and relationships with patients. This is the magic of DPC. Employers are now asking for high value, transparent and relationship driven care - all the DPC magic - for their employees. This book is a guide to connect DPC physicians, employers and benefits advisors to leverage relationships and time to lower costs and improve access to care. While this guide is written primarily with a DPC physician focus, there is overwhelming information for employers and benefits advisors with specific sections dedicated to each.
In this guide, important discussions include:
-
What are the advantages and disadvantages of working with employers?
-
How do DPC physicians connect with employers in their area?
-
How do DPC physicians find DPC knowledgeable benefits advisors in their area?
-
What are the DPC advantages for employers and employees?
-
How can benefits advisors and employers find and vet DPC physicians?
-
What "red flags" should everyone watch for regarding DPC clinics, employers or advisors?
-
How do you get large numbers of new employees into your clinic?

This is merely the opening act of the Magic, Pixie Dust, and Miracles that await in this guidebook.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY
“
"Like other evangelists in the free market medical movement, Dr. Purcell is dedicated to sharing the elements of his success with his current and future competitors and does exactly that in his book."
“
"Dr. Purcell has provided a fantastic review of pretty much every aspect of the Direct Primary Care model as it related to employer based benefits. For DPC practices, employers, brokers, and anyone else in this space, this book lays down the foundations for considering partnerships. Most importantly, he clearly lays out the challenges, and how employers can embrace DPC without corrupting the essence of the model."
“
Direct Primary Care is the foundational building block to a quality health plan. The biggest issue in the healthcare system today is the patient isn't front and center, and DPC allows the system to be Patient-Centric Care again. Dr. Purcell's book brings needed guidance and insight to connecting benefits advisors, employers and DPC physicians to revive high-performing community based health care. A must read for all involved."
“
Dr. Purcell did an amazing job on a very tough subject. We all think that getting employers to fill our patient panel would be wonderful but there are many things you need to know before you take that plunge. That is why this book is so important to read and re-read. I highly recommend it."
